Major activities for the triennial period of 2016-2019

Seminars

-How? 2 days of work + 1 or 2 days of visits

-When? Annually, spring time (April/May)

CRITICAL FACTORS IN MUSEUMS PLANNING (general 3-year theme)

2017 – Programming (social commitment, thematic, institutional framing, activities, etc.)

2018 – Location (territory building, urban planning, accessibilities, networking, etc.)

2019 – Conception (architecture, outfitings, services, management, communication, technological devices, etc.)

-Where? To decide in the future board of ICOM Europe; priority shall be given to offers by European National Committees able to mobilize the necessary funds (totally or partially) for each event

Conferences

-How? 2 or 3 days of work

-When? Anually, fall (October/November)

-Themes (a few ideas only)

2016 – The Role of National Museums in European State Building (or just: National Museums – past, present and future)

2017 – The Role of Local and Regional Museums in the Building of a People’s Europe (or just: Local and Community museums: past, present and future)

2018 –Museums management: new paradigms

-Where? To decide in the future board of ICOM Europe; priority shall be given to offers by European National Committees able to mobilize the necessary funds (totally or partially) for each event

Debates

-How? 1 session (c. 2 hours), introduced by two opposed views (pros and cons)

-When? During the annual ICOM meetings, in Paris or elsewhere (general conference), June

Visits and training activities

-How? Learning sessions of about 2 or 3 days, organized by European National Committees and/or in cooperation with NEMO

-When? No predetermined schedule

-Themes:

.general introduction to national museums’ systems and/or to specific museums’ typologies and/or geographies

.discussion and deepening of specific professional matters

Cooperative events

Jointly initiatives with European Museum Forum (EMF), European Museum Academy (EMA), Network of European Museum Associations (NEMO), EUROPEANA, ASEMUS (Asia-Europe Museum Network), ICOM SEE (South East Europe), ICOM LAC (Latin America and Caribbean) and all other ICOM Regional Alliances.
